Jinja – The Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV, has highlighted the critical role of cultural awareness in military leadership, emphasising that effective leadership requires more than tactics and logistics—it demands a deep understanding of peoples’ cultures, histories, and traditions.
Speaking at the Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC) in Kimaka, the Kyabazinga was represented by Busoga Kingdom’s Second Deputy Prime Minister, Alhaji Osman Ahmed Noor.
He underscored the importance of the Cultural Gala, integrated into the curriculum of Course 21, which brings together military officers from across Africa.
Held under the theme, “Harnessing our Social, Political, Economic and Cultural Diversities for Africa’s Security,” the gala transformed the college into a vibrant showcase of continental heritage.
The Kyabazinga noted that while the students’ curriculum sharpens strategic minds for complex security challenges, embedding cultural learning ensures leaders appreciate diversity as a strength that fosters cooperation and stability.
Brig. Gen. Elvis Byamukama, Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor at SCSC, echoed the Kyabazinga’s sentiments, praising the gala as a key academic exercise.
He highlighted that the event enables officers from Burundi, Egypt, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan, and Tanzania to study the geography, politics, and security dynamics of their respective nations.
The gala was attended by military leaders, defence attaches, and representatives from allied nations, reinforcing the importance of regional cooperation and strategic networking among Africa’s future military leaders.
