Amudat – Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has reported an alleged attempted murder incident after claiming that police fired live bullets at his vehicle during campaign activities in Amudat District, Karamoja sub-region.

According to Mafabi, the incident occurred in Kalita Sub-county while his convoy was preparing to hold a rally at the Kalita Livestock Market, a location restricted under Electoral Commission guidelines.

A scuffle reportedly broke out between his supporters and security personnel during which Mafabi alleged that shots shattered the right-side windscreen of his vehicle. He subsequently reported the matter at Amudat Central Police Station as an attempted murder case.

“Our President, Rt. Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi is safe and sound,” the FDC confirmed on social media.

Police, however, denied firing live bullets at Mafabi, describing the situation as a tense confrontation.

Mount Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole told Daily Monitor that both a police truck and Mafabi’s vehicle sustained damage during the altercation, but no officers discharged firearms.

Photos circulating on social media and news outlets show damage to Mafabi’s car consistent with his claims, although the cause—whether bullet or thrown object—remains disputed.

Despite the incident, Mafabi continued his campaign trail in Karamoja, visiting Tingasi Trading Centre in Lokales Sub-county, and Nabilatuk Town Council and Lolachat Sub-county, where he reiterated his economic agenda. “The message is clear: fix the economy and put money back in the pockets of hardworking Ugandans,” Mafabi told supporters.

This episode is the latest in a series of reported tensions between opposition candidates and security forces ahead of the 2026 elections. No injuries were reported in the confrontation.
