London, UK – Award-winning Ugandan journalist and founder of Her Story Uganda, Culton Scovia Nakamya, has earned her Master’s in Gender, Media and Culture from the London School of Economics (LSE).
Nakamya, a 2024 Chevening Scholar, celebrated the milestone online, highlighting her perseverance through years of challenging reporting and online harassment.

“Proof that steady determination still makes noise. I celebrate academic growth, sacrifice, and choosing to keep going when it was hard,” Nakamya wrote on X, sharing her joy with friends, colleagues, and fellow Ugandans.
Nakamya also acknowledged the guidance of her professor, Sadie Wearing, the convenor of the GMC program, who she credited for helping her navigate LSE’s high academic standards. “When your Prof says she’s proud of you,” Nakamya tweeted, adding an emoji of delight.

Her graduation coincides with LSE’s winter graduation ceremonies, held from December 15 to 18, where students from around the world celebrate their academic achievements.
Nakamya’s accomplishment has been met with widespread congratulations online, with friends and fellow Ugandans echoing her message that persistence and dedication pay off even amid obstacles.

As the founder of “Her Story Uganda”, Nakamya has been recognised for her reporting on gender issues, amplifying women’s voices, and covering stories often overlooked by mainstream media in Uganda. Her academic achievement adds to her growing influence in media and gender advocacy.
