KAMPALA — Police in Kampala Metropolitan South have arrested four suspects and recovered several motorcycles in an intelligence-led operation targeting motorcycle theft and the dismantling and disposal of stolen motorcycles.
The operation was conducted by officers from Katwe Police Division after police received information about a suspected stolen Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UMA 2244MX.
Police recovered the motorcycle from Banturaki Purtaz, a resident of Wankulukuku Zone, Kabowa Parish in Rubaga Division.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police South Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Banturaki told investigators during interrogation that he had previously stolen two other motorcycles.
One of the motorcycles, a Bajaj Boxer registration number UFH 005Y, was allegedly stolen from Nkumba and sold to Lukyamuzi Muminu and Abasi Mwesezi in Rakai District.
The second, a Bajaj Boxer registration number UEQ, was allegedly stolen from Kigungu in Entebbe and sold to a suspect identified as Mike in Wansaso Zone.
Acting on the information, police mounted an operation in Wansaso Zone and recovered the UEQ motorcycle after its number plate had reportedly been removed.
Senyange Derric and Kagwa Ian were arrested for allegedly receiving the motorcycle and taking it to the suspected promoter, police said.
On September 2, 2026, Crime Intelligence officers travelled to Rakai District and arrested Lukyamuzi Muminu.
Police said Muminu admitted purchasing the UFH 005Y motorcycle for Shs500,000. He allegedly told investigators that he and his accomplice, Abasi Mwesezi, dismantled the motorcycle and sold it as spare parts.
Investigators also recovered the motorcycle’s UFH 005Y number plate, which police said had been hidden at the suspect’s ancestral home.
Another Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UDM 669Z, was also recovered during the operation.
Police said investigations are continuing to locate other suspects who remain at large, recover more motorcycles believed to have been stolen and establish the wider network involved in stealing, dismantling and disposing of motorcycles.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
Police have not yet disclosed the charges that will be preferred against the suspects once investigations are completed.
