Munyagwa’s father endorses Museveni

Kitagwenda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday received a significant show of support in Kitagwenda District after Hajji Bruhan Sserunga, father of presidential candidate Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa, publicly praised the NRM flag bearer’s leadership and urged residents to re-elect him in 2026.

Addressing crowds at Kayombo Primary School, Hajji Sserunga—described as a veteran community leader—said he had witnessed Uganda’s transformation under President Museveni.

“I am a civilian veteran. I helped the NRA war people by offering shelter. I have seen where this country has come from and where it is going. I hail President Museveni for his good and wise leadership,” he said. He asked Kitagwenda voters to “overwhelmingly vote for President Museveni” to sustain development.

President Museveni, visibly appreciative, saluted Sserunga’s decades of service. “I thank God for enabling me to meet my veteran comrade Mzee Bruhan Sserunga, the father of Munyagwa… I will engage him further,” he told supporters.

Praise for Farmers and Wealth Creation

The President hailed Kitagwenda residents for embracing commercial agriculture, noting that 60% of households are now in the money economy.

“This is good news… wealth creation at the household level is key,” he said, emphasising the difference between public development and personal wealth. “Development is for all, but wealth is personal… they don’t say katungye tarmac,” he added, drawing from Banyankole culture.

He reiterated that peace remains the backbone of Uganda’s progress, thanking Local Defence Units for supporting the UPDF in defeating ADF rebels along the DRC border. “Without peace, people die, property is destroyed and lives are ruined. The NRM has refused war,” he said.

Museveni announced that the government had secured funding for the Ibanda–Kagongo–Kabujogera–Kamwenge road, noting that security-related priorities sometimes delay infrastructure work.

He also highlighted local success stories, including George Matongo, a farmer who transitioned from subsistence to modern agriculture, and Ninsiima Moria, a school dropout turned entrepreneur trained at the Kyenjojo Presidential Skilling Hub.

“She is now skilled, a wealth creator and an employer,” Museveni said.

The President further pledged to establish a coffee factory in the district.

Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among praised residents for their loyalty to the NRM and credited President Museveni for granting Kitagwenda district status, which she said set the foundation for improved service delivery.

Among also announced that Ntara Health Centre IV will be upgraded to a general hospital and assured residents that construction of the Ibanda–Kagongo–Kabujogera–Kamwenge road would begin soon. She commended investment in water systems, citing the Shs375 million Kanara Gravity Water System, which now serves over 1,600 farmers.

The Speaker described Museveni as a leader who consistently prioritises youth empowerment through targeted skilling and employment programmes.

Kitagwenda NRM Chairperson Nathan Masana outlined development gains since the district was operationalised in 2019.

Masana also highlighted gains in agriculture, including solar-powered irrigation systems increasing coffee production, and welcomed ongoing electricity expansion, with eight sub-counties already connected.

He concluded by thanking the President for peace and development, pledging Kitagwenda’s continued support for NRM programmes.

The rally was attended by NRM CEC members, MPs, cultural and religious leaders, and thousands of supporters.
