The United States Embassy in Uganda has announced that the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offices have officially relocated to the embassy premises, marking a new phase in long-standing US–Uganda public health cooperation.

In a statement shared on social media, the US Embassy confirmed the move, noting that the CDC is now fully based at the US Embassy in Kampala.

“We’ve moved! 🇺🇸 @CDCgov is now officially located at U.S. Embassy Uganda,” the embassy said, while expressing gratitude to the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) for years of collaboration. “Thank you to Uganda Virus Research Institute (@UVRIug) for their longstanding collaboration and support.”

The embassy emphasised that the relocation does not signal a shift in commitment to joint health initiatives between the two countries.

“Even though we’ve moved, US and Uganda will continue to work together to save lives in the United States and Uganda,” the statement added.

In response, UVRI welcomed the continued partnership and reaffirmed its commitment to collaboration in public health research and disease prevention.

“Been a pleasure indeed, and we look forward to the continued support and collaboration in health,” UVRI said.

The US CDC has worked closely with UVRI for decades on disease surveillance, research, outbreak response and capacity building, particularly in areas such as HIV/AIDS, Ebola, COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

The relocation is expected to streamline coordination while maintaining the strong institutional ties between the two partners.
