Johannesburg, South Africa – The “Made in Uganda Grand Trans-Africa Electric Expedition” reached a major milestone today as the Ugandan-built Kayoola E-Coach intercity electric bus arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Manufactured by Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC), the zero-emission coach rolled into the economic hub of South Africa, marking the latest chapter in its ambitious 13,000-kilometre journey from Kampala to Cape Town and back. The arrival signals a significant step in the mission to showcase African engineering excellence and promote sustainable mobility solutions across the continent.

The Kayoola E-Coach’s arrival in Johannesburg, which follows successful engagements in Tanzania, Zambia, and Botswana, is part of a larger market and diplomatic outreach effort.
In the days leading up to the South African leg, the team hosted a dynamic Uganda–Botswana stakeholder engagement and B2B networking session in Gaborone. The event brought together industry leaders from both nations to explore partnerships and potential collaborations in the rapidly growing electric mobility and technology sectors.
Earlier in Botswana, Ambassador Kintu Nyago hailed the Kayoola E-Coach as “proof that Ugandan innovation is ready to lead Africa’s green revolution.”
The ongoing expedition, themed “From the Pearl to the Cape,” is designed to stress-test the coach’s durability and prove the viability of long-distance electric transport across diverse African terrains.
The team has successfully traversed: Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa.
