Uganda wins 6 medals at African Youth Games

Luanda, Angola – Uganda ended its campaign at the 4th African Youth Games with a haul of six medals, comprising two silver and four bronze, showcasing the talent and versatility of its young athletes.

In athletics, Baskaline Cherotwo clinched silver in the 1500m, while Keren Chelimo added a bronze in the women’s 3000m, highlighting Uganda’s strong middle- and long-distance running tradition.

Breaking new ground, George Ntulume earned silver in breakdance, marking Uganda’s first-ever medal in the sport at the African Youth Games and signalling the growing prominence of urban sports in the country.

Uganda also excelled in table tennis. Joseph Sebatindira and Jemimah Nakawala each secured bronze in the singles events and combined efforts to win another bronze in the team event, rounding off Uganda’s medal tally.

Uganda’s Medal Winners:

Silver:

•       Baskaline Cherotwo – 1500m

•       George Ntulume – Breakdance

Bronze:

•       Keren Chelimo – Women’s 3000m

•       Joseph Sebatindira – Table Tennis Singles

•       Jemimah Nakawala – Table Tennis Singles

•       Joseph Sebatindira & Jemimah Nakawala – Table Tennis Team Event

The young Ugandan athletes’ performances demonstrate the country’s expanding sporting excellence across traditional and emerging disciplines, laying a strong foundation for future continental competitions.
