Police have arrested 47 suspects during a joint security and intelligence-led operation targeting alleged drug abuse and other criminal activities in areas around Katwe.
The operation was conducted on October 1 in Kanaaba Zone and Ndejje Parish, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District, before being extended to Kitebi Zone in Bunamwaya Parish.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the operation started at about 4pm on October 1 and ended at approximately 2am on October 2.
Police initially arrested 22 suspects in Kanaaba and Kabuuma zones.
The operation was later extended to Kitebi Zone, where another 25 suspects were arrested, bringing the total number of suspects detained to 47.
Among those arrested was Kabuye Marvin, whom police described as a notorious suspect allegedly involved in altering motorcycle chassis and engine numbers.
Police said Kabuye was found in possession of several breaking implements and devices allegedly used to alter motorcycle chassis and engine numbers.
Officers also recovered suspected narcotic substances, shisha pots and other breaking implements during the operation.
Two motorcycles were also recovered: a red Bajaj Boxer, registration number UGF 974 L, and a maroon Haojue, registration number UMA 918 M.
Police said the arrested suspects remain in custody as investigations continue and will be taken through court proceedings where appropriate.
The operation is part of ongoing security efforts targeting suspected criminal activities in areas identified by police for increased surveillance and intelligence-led operations.
