Stella Chesang, Chebet and Kiprop win gold medals

Ugandan runners have continued to shine on the international stage, securing podium finishes across marathons, road races, and cross-country events in 2026.

Chesang Wins Osaka Marathon

Uganda’s Stella Chesang claimed gold at the Osaka International Women’s Marathon in Japan on Sunday, finishing in a world-leading time of 2:19:31. Ethiopians Bedatu Hirpa (2:19:54) and Workenesh Edesa (2:19:56) completed the podium.

Chelimo Takes Silver in Italy

In Italy, Dolphine Chelimo earned silver in the senior men’s race at the Campaccio Cross Country Tour. Burundi’s Egide Ntakarutimana won in 30:38, while Chelimo finished 30:45, with Celestin Ndikumana also clocking 30:45 to take third.

Uganda Dominates Spanish 10K

At the Villafranca del Penedes 10K in Spain, Abel Chebet led a 1-2 finish in the men’s race ahead of compatriot Eliud Cherop, finishing in 29:05 and 29:24, respectively. In the women’s category, Angeline Chelimo placed second in 34:38, behind Spain’s Meritxell Soler (33:42).

Kiprop Wins in Belgium

Uganda’s Keneth Kiprop triumphed at the Hannut Cross Country Cup 8K in Belgium, winning in 24:21. Ethiopian Saymon Amanuel and Belgian Bastien Augusto followed in second and third. In the women’s race, Charity Cherop claimed third with 27:51, completing another strong international showing for Uganda.

These performances highlight Uganda’s growing dominance in distance running, with athletes excelling in marathons, 10Ks, and cross-country races around the world.
