Ethiopian long-distance runner Fotyen Tesfay delivered a historic performance after winning the Barcelona Marathon with a time of 2:10:53, the second-fastest women’s marathon ever recorded.

Tesfay achieved the remarkable feat in her marathon debut, breaking the course record and registering the fastest first marathon in history for a female athlete.

Her time placed her just behind the world record of 2:09:56, set by Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich.

Kenya’s Joan Jepkosgei finished second in 2:18:42, while Ethiopia’s Zeineba Yimer claimed third place in 2:18:49.

Tesfay, who previously competed on the track and road over shorter distances, has quickly established herself among the world’s elite marathon runners following her sensational debut.
