At a lively event in Bukomansimbi, singer Spice Diana delivered her set but walked off with the venue’s laptops, microphones, speakers, and controllers when the promoter skipped her final payment.

She shared her frustration on Snapchat, noting the late-night drive past midnight with no food or pay, adding that her ‘ghetto’ side emerges over money issues.

“Normal people are enjoying their beds, you drive 4 hrs on pressure, otusewa otusewa, mukama nayamba notuka, with the poor roads of Uganda past midnight, nio ate no payment. I will die with someone, as always. I don’t joke with my money; the Ghetto in me comes out. Mpozzi nga saberako nankulabye”

DJ Crysto Panda backed her bold move, while others debated the need for contracts and managers; fans cheered her stand in Uganda’s tough music scene.

Last night after performance in Bukomasimbi Artist Spice Diana had an incident following failure of the promoter to clear her payment. She consficated equipment as collateral till shes cleared.

According to a post shared by media personality Douglas Lwanga on X (formerly Twitter), the incident occurred after the artist completed her show but allegedly failed to receive the agreed-upon payment from the organiser. In response, it is reported that she temporarily confiscated some stage equipment as collateral until the matter is resolved.

“Last night after performance in Bukomansimbi, artist Spice Diana had an incident following failure of the promoter to clear her payment. She confiscated equipment as collateral till she’s cleared,” Douglas Lwanga posted, sparking widespread discussion online.

As of now, the event promoter involved has not publicly responded to the allegations or confirmed when payment will be made. The situation remains unresolved.

Entertainment industry stakeholders have often raised concerns about delayed payments to performers at local shows, a recurring issue that continues to spark disputes between artists and event organisers across Uganda.
