Uganda’s music industry has been plunged into mourning following the death of Jackline Nassimbwa, the mother of celebrated rapper Fik Fameica.

The award-winning artist, born Walukagga Shafik, lost his mother on Saturday after a long illness.

She passed away at Kibuli Muslim Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment for several weeks as her condition gradually deteriorated.

Sources close to the family say the final days were emotionally draining, with the rapper spending much of his time by her bedside.

In the days before her passing, Fameica had quietly appealed to fans on social media to pray for his mother—messages that have since taken on a poignant, farewell tone.

“This is one of the hardest moments of his life,” said a close associate. “His mother was more than family. She was his foundation—she believed in him long before the fame, the money, and the applause.”

Fik Fameica has frequently credited his mother for supporting his journey from Kawempe to national and regional stardom. She was a familiar presence at his concerts and key career milestones, often celebrating his achievements away from the spotlight.

“She never sought attention, but she was always there,” said a fellow musician who has shared several events with Fameica. “You could tell how much her presence meant to him.”

Nassimbwa, 51, will be buried on Monday, December 29, 202,5 in Luweru, Kasana, Buikwe district.

Following the news, tributes have poured in from fellow artists, producers, and fans across the country. Many have described his mother as a strong and supportive woman who played a central role in shaping one of Uganda’s most influential contemporary musicians.

“This goes beyond music,” one fan wrote online. “It’s about a son losing the person who gave him strength.”

Fik Fameica, known for hits such as Pistol, Salawo, and Batuwulira, has not yet issued an official statement. Family sources say funeral and burial arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
