KAMPALA, Uganda — The Uganda Prisons Service has announced a Shs10 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Anguyo Moses, a prison warder accused of carrying out a deadly shooting at Kiboga Government Prison.

The reward was announced by the Uganda Prisons Service under the leadership of Commissioner General Johnson Byabashaija, as security agencies intensify the manhunt for the suspect.

In a public notice, the prison authority said: “Ten million shillings bounty has been placed on murderer Warder Anguyo Moses. Anyone with information leading to his arrest should report to the nearest police station or contact security agencies.”

Authorities urged members of the public to provide information that could help locate the suspect, noting that he remains at large and should be considered dangerous.

According to security officials, Anguyo allegedly opened fire at Kiboga Government Prison on February 23, killing several people before fleeing the facility.

Preliminary reports indicate that the victims included Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, the deputy officer in charge of the facility, Principal Officer Bright Akishuri, who was third in command, and Sarah Ayebare, the spouse of the officer in charge.

A toddler who had been critically injured during the shooting later died at hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to four, according to medical officials.

Investigators say the shooting followed a confrontation after Anguyo was reportedly cautioned by his supervisors for using his phone while on duty. He allegedly followed the officers and opened fire shortly afterward.

Security agencies launched a joint operation immediately after the incident, and the firearm believed to have been used in the attack was recovered, though the suspect fled the scene.

The prisons authority has now appealed to the public to assist in the search for the fugitive warder.

Anyone with credible information about his whereabouts has been asked to call 999, 0800144144, or report to the nearest police station.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities continue efforts to track down the suspect and determine the full circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting.
