KAMPALA — The Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, has announced that the Senior Five (S.5) selection and placement exercise will be conducted from February 18 to 19, 2026, as Uganda prepares to transition learners to A-Level.

Museveni also confirmed that Term One for Senior Five candidates will officially open on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

The Minister made the announcement while releasing the 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results, thanking candidates, teachers, UNEB officials and security agencies for their role in ensuring a smooth examination process.

She said the 2025 UCE examinations marked the second cohort completing Senior Four under the Competency-Based Lower Secondary Curriculum, rolled out in January 2020.

Museveni welcomed a 20 percent increase in the number of candidates registered and a low absenteeism rate of 0.5 percent, saying it indicates more learners are staying in school to complete O-Level.

She described the results as encouraging, noting that the percentage of learners reaching defined competency levels has improved compared to the 2024 cohort.

Museveni congratulated candidates who performed well and encouraged those dissatisfied with their results to take advantage of the re-sit opportunity, adding that Continuous Assessment scores will be carried over.

She also urged parents and guardians to embrace the TVET pathway as a viable alternative for learners seeking practical skills.

The Ministry said results are already uploaded on school examination portals for downloading, while hard copies will be issued later once UNEB notifies centres for collection.
