KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda’s rising table tennis stars Joseph Sebatindira and Patience Anyango delivered a memorable performance at the ITTF Africa Hopes Week & Challenge 2026, securing a gold and silver medal respectively to cap another successful outing for Team Uganda.
The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) announced on Sunday that Sebatindira successfully defended his Under-12 African title, while Anyango claimed the silver medal in the continental youth competition.
“Double podium finish for Team Uganda! Joseph Sebatindira successfully defended his Under-12 African title at the ITTF Africa Hopes Week & Challenge 2026. Patience Anyango delivered another outstanding performance to claim silver,” the UOC said in a statement on its official social media platforms.
Sebatindira’s latest triumph further cements his status as one of Africa’s brightest young table tennis prospects. The youngster has consistently excelled in the International Table Tennis Federation’s Hopes programme, which identifies and develops elite players under the age of 12 across the continent.
Anyango also continued her impressive rise by reaching the final and earning the silver medal, adding another continental podium finish to her growing list of achievements.
The two Ugandan youngsters have emerged as key beneficiaries of the ITTF’s talent identification pathway. Both previously represented Uganda in the Africa Hopes programme and have been recognised among the continent’s most promising junior players.
The latest success comes at a time when the Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) is strengthening partnerships with the International Table Tennis Federation to expand the sport’s development, improve governance and enhance opportunities for young athletes. UTTA has also expressed ambitions to host future continental championships while increasing investment in junior talent development.
The ITTF Africa Hopes Week & Challenge serves as the continent’s premier talent identification programme for players aged under 12, combining high-performance training with competition and offering top performers a pathway to global development events.
Uganda’s double podium finish underscores the country’s growing reputation in African youth table tennis and provides another boost to its preparations for future international competitions.
