Police have arrested the driver of a Sino truck involved in a crash that killed two people and injured nine others along the Kampala-Hoima Road in Wakiso District.
The crash occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at about 1:33pm at Nkoowe, according to police.
Police spokesperson SP Michael Kananura identified the driver as Wasswa Peter, who was driving Sino truck registration number UBK 495F from Kakiri towards Kampala.
The truck reportedly lost control and rammed into a Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UAT 272J, before hitting two other vehicles.
The taxi driver and conductor died at the scene.
Nine other occupants of the taxi, including five adults and four juveniles, were injured and received medical attention.
Wasswa was arrested following the crash and remains in police custody pending court proceedings.
“He is currently in police custody and is expected to appear in court any time to face charges arising from the crash,” Kananura said.
Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
Kananura urged motorists to exercise caution, observe speed limits and maintain proper control of their vehicles at all times.
The crash has renewed concerns over road safety and the risks posed by heavy vehicles on busy roads.
