The Uganda Police Force together with other security agencies have arrested 37 suspects during a series of intelligence-led operations targeting crime hotspots across parts of Kampala Metropolitan Area.

According to a statement issued on May 14 by Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Luke Owoyesigyire, the coordinated operations were conducted on May 13 and 14 in areas under Kira Municipality, Kajjansi Town Council, and Kira Road Police Division.

Police said the operations focused on locations including Kiyinda, Bulindo Kiwologoma, Lweza, Nakigalala, Seguku, Kulambiro, and Tuba, where suspected criminals were allegedly gathering to abuse narcotic substances and coordinate criminal activities.

“The operations targeted identified crime hotspots where suspected criminals were reported to be gathering to abuse narcotic substances and plan criminal activities, including burglary and theft,” Owoyesigyire stated.

Security agencies reportedly recovered exhibits including suspected marijuana, dry plant materials, and playing cards during the raids.

“All suspects are currently detained at the respective police stations pending screening, fingerprinting, and prosecution,” the statement added.

Police described the operations as successful and said they form part of ongoing efforts to combat criminality and improve public safety within the Kampala Metropolitan area.

The latest crackdown comes amid continued security operations targeting urban crime, drug abuse, and organized theft syndicates in Kampala and surrounding municipalities.
