A brand-new vehicle has arrived at the Tooro Kingdom palace in Fort Portal for the kingdom’s Chief Prince, Omusuga Charles Kayondo Kamurasi.
The Land Cruiser TX is expected to be formally handed over to Omusuga Kamurasi, who is the head of the Babiito royal clan.
The arrival comes days before the scheduled September 29 coronation of Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the 13th Omukama of Tooro, at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal.
The government has said the succession process that selected Kijanangoma followed the recognised traditional procedures and is processing his formal recognition in the Uganda Gazette.
Kamurasi has been at the centre of the succession process. The Babiito royal clan, under his leadership, selected Kijanangoma on September 9, after which the prince was presented to the Rukurato Rw’Obukama Bwa Tooro, the kingdom’s supreme council.
The development was reported by NBS on Saturday, September 26, which said the vehicle had arrived at the palace and was awaiting handover to the Omusuga.
Kamurasi also played a prominent role during the burial of the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV on September 12, when he reaffirmed Kijanangoma’s selection as the next king.
The new vehicle comes as preparations intensify for Kijanangoma’s coronation, with work ongoing at Karuziika Palace and other sites in Fort Portal.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is scheduled to attend the September 29 ceremony.
