Kololo — Johnnie Walker quite literally walked into Kabonero’s home on Sunday afternoon as Uganda’s business and leadership elite gathered at the opulent Kololo residence of renowned businessman and philanthropist Bob Kabonero for an exclusive Johnnie Walker Blue Club experience.

Set against the backdrop of one of Kampala’s most prestigious neighbourhoods, the invitation-only gathering brought together a select circle of distinguished leaders for an afternoon defined by refined conversation, exceptional whisky, and shared celebration. The event marked the final Blue Club experience of 2025, offering members a sophisticated close to the year.

Synonymous with prestige, rare craftsmanship, and purposeful leadership, the Johnnie Walker Blue Club is a curated platform that connects accomplished individuals across business, diplomacy, and industry. Sunday’s guest list reflected this stature, featuring prominent business magnates, captains of industry, diplomats, and influential figures from Uganda and beyond.

Designed as a year-end celebration of achievement, the experience began with an elegant luncheon, complemented by live performances from the Black Roots Band. Guests enjoyed a meticulously curated dining experience, with each table adorned with a starter bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label, alongside a fully stocked bar serving bespoke cocktails throughout the afternoon.

Welcoming guests into his private residence, Kabonero expressed appreciation for the gathering and reflected on his long-standing partnership with Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL).

“You are most welcome to my home. It is truly a pleasure to host such an exceptional group of leaders, visionaries, and friends,” Kabonero said.

“This evening is not just a social gathering; it is a celebration of relationships, shared journeys, and the spirit of progress that has defined Uganda’s business community for decades. I am especially grateful to UBL and the Johnnie Walker team for a partnership spanning over ten years, and for choosing my home to host the final Blue Club experience of the year.”

He added that the Blue Club embodies values he strongly identifies with as a founding member. “The Blue Club stands for excellence, rare craftsmanship, and leadership with purpose. Tonight, I invite you to relax, enjoy the whisky, and most importantly, the conversations and company around you.”

UBL Managing Director Félicité Nson echoed the spirit of the evening, highlighting the Blue Club’s role in celebrating leadership and progress.

“Evenings like this remind us why we do what we do — creating moments that bring people together, elevate conversation, and honour those driving progress in our community,” Nson said. “Johnnie Walker Blue Label is not just a drink; it is a statement of rarity, mastery, and intention. Through the Blue Club, we are saying to our members: we see you, we celebrate you, and we honour your contribution to Uganda’s economic and cultural landscape.”

The afternoon also featured an exclusive whisky mentorship masterclass, guiding guests through the art of tasting and appreciating Johnnie Walker Blue Label. Adding to the sense of privilege, members were among the first in the region to sample the 2025 Horizon Unbound Limited Edition Special Releases, including expressions from Talisker 14, Lagavulin 12, Oban 12, Clynelish 18, and The Singleton 17-Year-Old.

Speaking on the essence of the Blue Club, Christine Kyokunda, Johnnie Walker Brand Manager, described the platform as more than a luxury experience.

“The Blue Club is an exclusive circle for individuals who appreciate mastery, craft, and intention,” Kyokunda said. “Johnnie Walker Blue Label represents rarity — only one in ten thousand casks is selected. It is crafted for those who understand that excellence is intentional and earned.”

UBL Board Chairman and Blue Club Patron Jimmy D. Mugerwa noted that the initiative is built around meaningful connection and shared progress.

“The Blue Club was created as a home for achievers, where leadership, intellect, and refined taste meet,” Mugerwa said. “True success is not only about individual achievement, but the relationships, conversations, and legacies we build together.”

As evening set in, the atmosphere transitioned into celebration, with a DJ set ushering guests onto the dance floor for a nostalgic musical journey filled with classic favourites.

Hosted by Chairman Kabonero, the final Blue Club experience of 2025 offered a fitting and memorable close to a year that saw the platform refreshed to deliver deeper connections and elevated experiences for its distinguished members.
