The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has arrested Ntare School headteacher Saul Rwampororo, his predecessor Jimmy Turyagyenda and former office typist Peace Kebirungi over an alleged Shs110.9 million loss to government and abuse of office.
The three were arrested over allegations relating to the management of public resources at the government-aided secondary school in Mbarara, western Uganda, according to a report by NTV Uganda published on X.
Kebirungi faces additional allegations of using a forged university admission letter to obtain study leave with pay before abandoning her duties while continuing to receive a government salary.
According to the report, she allegedly remained on the government payroll and received a salary from September 2015 to August 2024, despite having absconded from duty.
The alleged period of irregular salary payments spans nine years, raising questions about the verification of public servants’ employment status and the controls used to manage the government payroll.
The Inspectorate of Government is mandated to investigate corruption, abuse of authority and other forms of maladministration involving public officers.
In a separate case announced on October 21, 2026, the Inspectorate reported the arrest of three officials over the alleged diversion of Shs200 million from Arua District Local Government funds. The case involved allegations of abuse of office and diversion of money intended for public infrastructure.
The allegations against the Ntare School officials have not been established in court. Further details, including the specific roles attributed to each suspect in the alleged Shs110.9 million loss, the charges they may face and their court appearance arrangements, were not available in the online sources reviewed for this report.
