Kampala — Nation Media Group Uganda has paid tribute to veteran journalist Daniel Kalinaki following his retirement as General Manager, Editorial, bringing to a close a distinguished career spanning more than two decades.

In a statement shared by the company’s Board, Management, and Staff, Kalinaki was hailed as a steady and influential voice in the newsroom whose leadership helped shape editorial standards and journalistic excellence within the organisation.

“For more than two decades, Kalinaki has been a guiding force and a source of inspiration to many journalists,” the statement read, noting his dedication, professionalism, and commitment to mentoring generations of reporters and editors.

Kalinaki, a prominent figure in Uganda’s media landscape, has been widely recognised for his sharp analysis and editorial leadership, particularly during his tenure at Daily Monitor, one of the country’s leading publications under Nation Media Group.

Tributes from colleagues and media personalities poured in on social media, with many highlighting his impact on the newsroom culture and his role in nurturing young journalists. Photos shared online showed a ceremonial send-off, including a guard of honour in recognition of his service.

NTV Uganda also described Kalinaki as a “guiding hand” whose influence extended beyond the newsroom to the broader media industry.

As he steps away from his formal role, Kalinaki leaves behind a legacy defined by editorial integrity, mentorship, and a lasting contribution to Uganda’s journalism profession.
