Mengo — Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, accompanied by the Nnaabagereka, Sylvia Nagginda Luswata, on Wednesday evening, arrived at Lubiri, Mengo, to join thousands of his subjects in ushering in the New Year 2026 during the annual kingdom celebration Enkuuka.

The event, organised by CBS FM, the Buganda Kingdom–based radio station, drew massive crowds who converged at the Lubiri to enjoy music, cultural performances and fireworks as the year came to a close.

The Kabaka was warmly received by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, amid cheers and ululations from revellers, many of whom broke into the Buganda anthem upon the monarch’s arrival.

The annual Enkuuka festival has become a key fixture on Buganda’s cultural calendar, providing a platform for celebrating tradition, unity and entertainment as the kingdom ushers in a new year.

Revellers thronged the Lubiri grounds on the night of December 31, 2025, enjoying performances by local artistes, cultural troupes and DJs, with the festivities culminating in midnight celebrations to welcome 2026.

The Kabaka’s presence at Enkuuka underscored the importance of cultural unity and continuity, as Buganda subjects from across the country gathered to celebrate together at the kingdom’s historic seat in Mengo.
