ENTEBBE, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday presided over the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed Cabinet ministers at State House Entebbe, formally ushering them into office following parliamentary vetting and approval earlier this month.
The ceremony brought together both retained and newly appointed ministers who took the oath of office and pledged to serve the country in their respective portfolios.
In a statement issued after the event, President Museveni congratulated the ministers and urged them to focus on service delivery and Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
“Today at State House Entebbe, I witnessed the swearing-in of the newly appointed members of Cabinet. I congratulate them upon taking the oath of office and wish them success as they undertake the responsibility of serving our people and advancing Uganda’s transformation,” the President said.
The swearing-in followed the announcement of the Cabinet reshuffle on May 26 and subsequent vetting by Parliament in early June.
Among those who took the oath were Vice President Jessica Alupo and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, both of whom retained their positions in the new Cabinet lineup.
New entrants to Cabinet also formally assumed office, including Balaam Barugahara, who was appointed Minister for Local Government.
However, First Lady and Education Minister Janet Kataaha Museveni was absent from the ceremony. Government officials indicated that she was indisposed and therefore unable to attend the swearing-in.
Her absence sparked public discussion and speculation about her health, with supporters expressing concern while critics questioned the limited details provided regarding her condition.
The Cabinet appointments come at a time when the government is seeking to accelerate implementation of key development programmes and strengthen service delivery across sectors.
The President is expected to address the nation later on Heroes Day, where he is anticipated to outline government priorities and comment on key national issues, including economic transformation, security, and public service delivery.
The new Cabinet is expected to begin work immediately as the government advances its agenda for the coming financial year.
