President Yoweri Museveni has agreed to meet youth leaders in a town hall meeting to discuss African integration and environmental protection.
Museveni announced the planned engagement in a post on X on Friday, responding to Natasha Ahereza, the National Secretary of the NRM Youth League, who had proposed a town hall meeting to discuss the issues.
“Natasha Ahereza, National Secretary NRM Youth League wants what she calls a Town Hall meeting with me to discuss all this. I totally agree,” Museveni said.
He asked his daughter, Natasha Karugire, to work with Ahereza to organise the meeting.
“My daughter, Natasha Karugire, had previously organized the Jazz with Jajja at Kisozi and Nakasero. Let her work with Ahereza to organize the meeting you want. I will be happy to participate,” Museveni said.
The President said he had been informed that many young people had engaged with his recent message on integration and environmental protection.
“I was informed that many youth engaged with my message and that is good,” he said.
The proposed town hall follows Museveni’s recent public emphasis on environmental protection, particularly the preservation of wetlands and forests, alongside his broader advocacy for African integration.
Museveni has repeatedly linked environmental conservation to Uganda’s economic development, as the country expands agricultural production and prepares for increased oil production.
The youth engagement would bring together questions about environmental conservation and the wider political and economic project of African integration.
No date or venue for the town hall has yet been announced. Museveni said Karugire and Ahereza would work together to organise the meeting.
