The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Uganda) has announced the death of career diplomat Santa Laker Kinyera.

In a statement issued on March 3, the ministry said Ambassador Kinyera passed away at Mulago National Specialised Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment.

“It is with profound shock and sorrow that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces the passing of our dear colleague Amb. Santa Laker Kinyera which occurred this morning at Mulago Specialised National Referral Hospital,” the ministry said.

The ministry noted that Kinyera joined the foreign service in 1994 and served as a career diplomat for over three decades.

Tributes have continued to pour in from government officials and colleagues in the diplomatic service.

Former Speaker of Parliament and current First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga expressed sorrow at the news of Kinyera’s passing.

“I am exceedingly sorry to hear about her death. She was my personal assistant when I was Minister for Regional Cooperation. Condolences to her family and workmates at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Kadaga said in a message shared on social media.

Kinyera served in different capacities at the ministry during her career, representing Uganda’s diplomatic interests both at home and abroad.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described her as a dedicated public servant and extended condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.
