Kampala, April 8, 2026 — Veteran Kadongo Kamu singer Lord Fred Ssebatta reportedly broke down in tears and walked out of a meeting of traditional music artists, following controversial remarks attributed to Eddy Kenzo that have stirred debate within Uganda’s music industry.
According to posts circulating on social media platform X and reports from local entertainment outlets, the incident occurred during a Kadongo Kamu stakeholders’ meeting, where tensions flared over comments allegedly made by Kenzo criticising veteran artists and their legacy.
Ssebatta is said to have left the meeting visibly emotional after remarks that reportedly referenced fellow artist Dan Mugula as “unsuccessful,” a statement that did not sit well with senior figures in the genre.
Other veteran musicians, including Fred Ssebaale and Willy Mukaabya, were also reportedly emotional during the meeting, highlighting the depth of dissatisfaction among older artists.
Some attendees quoted in social media posts said Ssebatta expressed frustration at what he viewed as disrespect toward pioneers of Kadongo Kamu music, particularly in reference to Dan Mugula’s contribution to the industry.
The remarks attributed to Kenzo, who is also associated with leadership roles in Uganda’s music industry, have since triggered mixed reactions online, with some defending his position as a call for evolution in the sector, while others criticised the tone as dismissive of veteran musicians.
Analysts say the incident reflects a broader generational divide within Uganda’s music scene, especially between traditional genres like Kadongo Kamu and contemporary Afrobeat and pop influences.
As of now, Kenzo has not publicly responded to the specific claims circulating online, and details of his original remarks remain partly unverified.
