Cape Town, South Africa — Kiira Motors’ groundbreaking African Electric Expedition has reached a historic climax with the arrival of the expedition team in Cape Town, completing an extraordinary 7,125-kilometre journey across the continent.

The team, travelling in Kiira’s electric mobility innovations, was warmly received on arrival by Hon. Dr Monica Musenero Masanza, Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, whose presence, Kiira Motors said, “added honour and inspiration to this triumphant moment.”

The expedition, dubbed “From the Pearl to the Cape,” set out to demonstrate Africa’s ability to build, scale, and deploy homegrown electric mobility solutions while testing the performance of Ugandan-made electric vehicles across diverse terrain and climatic conditions.

A Journey of Firsts Across the Continent

Over the past several weeks, the team has navigated Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Eswatini, and South Africa—collecting data, showcasing innovation, and engaging with policymakers and partners along the way.

On Day 17, the team crossed the Ngwenya Border in Eswatini, clocking 5,377 km, having used 4,511 kWh of energy and avoiding 2,481 kg of CO₂ emissions. Kiira Motors described the 99 km stretch through the Kingdom as “unforgettable,” praising Eswatini’s commitment to Africa’s e-mobility future.

A day later, in Bloemfontein, South Africa, the expedition surpassed the 6,000 km mark — recording 6,108 km, 5,123 kWh of energy consumed, and 2,817 kg of CO₂ avoided. Kiira Motors noted that the second leg of the South African journey “continues to the Cape,” celebrating the endurance of the vehicles and the team.

Their stop in Eswatini earlier in the week showcased powerful regional collaboration. “The African Electric Expedition’s stop in the Kingdom of Eswatini showed what happens when innovators, leaders, and partners move with one vision,” the company said in a statement. “The message was clear: Africa can build, scale, and own its solutions.”

Showcasing Africa’s Electric Mobility Potential

The expedition has been widely praised as a bold demonstration of Africa’s capacity to lead in sustainable transport. By covering thousands of kilometres on electric power alone, the team avoided several tonnes of carbon emissions—reinforcing Kiira Motors’ role in driving the continent’s transition to clean mobility.

For Uganda, the journey marks a significant milestone in its innovation story and positions Kiira Motors as a continental pioneer in electric vehicle engineering and manufacturing.

The company says data gathered from the expedition will inform further development of electric vehicles suited to African conditions, charging ecosystem models, and regional policy harmonisation.

A Continent Inspired

As the team touched down in Cape Town to conclude the monumental trek, Kiira Motors described the moment as “remarkable” and “a testament to what Africa can achieve when it believes in its potential.”

The expedition now stands as one of the continent’s most ambitious demonstrations of electric mobility — an achievement expected to influence policy, industry collaboration, and investment in Africa’s e-mobility ecosystem.
