Hoima City’s skyline has been transformed with the completion of the ultra-modern Hoima City Stadium, a landmark sports facility that now stands as one of Uganda’s most iconic infrastructure projects in the fast-growing Albertine region.

Barely a year after construction works took shape, the stadium has evolved from an open site into a fully built, world-class arena, drawing admiration from sports enthusiasts, residents and leaders alike.

“Time truly flies. Just last year, we were standing right here, and now look at a complete, modern stadium,” Hoima City Stadium management noted in a recent update, reflecting the rapid pace of development.

The stadium, which is expected to play a key role in national and regional sporting events, recently hosted a high-profile visit by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Adviser on Special Operations.

During his tour of the facility, Gen. Muhoozi praised the quality of the works and described the stadium as a symbol of Uganda’s growing ambition in sports infrastructure and urban development.

Hoima City Stadium has already earned a four-star rating under international stadium assessment standards, a significant achievement that places it among the top-tier sports venues in the country. The rating reflects compliance with modern requirements, including spectator safety, seating, player facilities, accessibility, and broadcast readiness.

With its expansive seating bowl, modern pitch, media facilities, VIP lounges and improved access roads, the stadium is designed to host top-flight football matches, athletics events, national celebrations and large public gatherings. Local leaders say the facility will not only nurture sports talent but also stimulate tourism, business and employment in Hoima City and the wider Bunyoro sub-region.

Despite the completion of major works, the stadium is yet to be officially commissioned. The formal commissioning is pending a presidential launch by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, an event expected to mark the stadium’s full entry into national service. Government sources indicate that once commissioned, Hoima City Stadium will be immediately integrated into Uganda’s national sports calendar.

Located at Mparo Division, Hoima City, the stadium is a confirmed venue and is already complete and ready for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.
