MUKONO, Uganda — July 7, 2026 — Police in Mukono are investigating an aggravated theft in which suspected criminals allegedly posed as television repair technicians before making off with cash, electronics and a firearm from a home in Upper Nabuti Cell, Central Division, Mukono Municipality.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the incident was reported on July 1, 2026, after unknown suspects allegedly used deception to gain entry into the victim’s residence.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects convinced the housemaid they had been sent by the homeowner to collect a faulty television set for repair. Believing the story to be genuine, the domestic worker reportedly allowed them access to the house.
Once inside, the suspects allegedly stole three television sets, Shs10 million in cash, a CCTV digital video recorder (DVR), a mobile phone, and a metallic safe containing a pistol.
Police said the stolen property was loaded into a white Toyota Noah, which the suspects used to flee the scene before the theft was discovered.
Officers from Mukono Police responded to the incident, visited and documented the crime scene, and commenced investigations aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible.
Detectives are expected to review available evidence, including CCTV footage and witness statements, to establish the suspects’ identities and trace the stolen property.
The theft highlights a growing trend in which criminals use deception and impersonation to gain access to homes before committing offences.
In a statement, the Uganda Police Force urged homeowners and domestic workers to exercise caution when dealing with unfamiliar visitors claiming to have been sent by property owners.
Police advised the public to verify instructions directly with homeowners or authorized family members before allowing unknown individuals into residential premises, warning that fraudsters are increasingly exploiting trust and impersonation to carry out thefts.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
