The Ugandan media fraternity is mourning the death of veteran radio broadcaster Prisca Tweteise, a former presenter with Voice of Kigezi (VOK) FM and later Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) Radio.

UBC confirmed her passing in an official announcement issued on March 25, expressing sorrow over the loss of a respected colleague who served listeners with dedication and professionalism.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague Prisca Tweteise. Her contribution to public broadcasting will always be remembered,” UBC said in a brief statement.

Tweteise, also known as Prisca Kibirango, was widely admired for her distinctive on-air presence, particularly her “motherly voice,” eloquent delivery, and fluent Rukiga, which endeared her to audiences across the Kigezi sub-region.

A Beloved Voice in Kigezi

During her time at Voice of Kigezi FM in Kabale, Tweteise built a loyal following through her engaging programmes and ability to connect with listeners on personal and community issues.

Colleagues and listeners described her as a calm and compassionate communicator who often used her platform to counsel and guide audiences.

“She had a unique way of speaking to people — warm, reassuring, and deeply relatable,” a former colleague at VOK FM said. “Her voice felt like home to many listeners.”

She later joined UBC Radio Uganda, where she continued her broadcasting career at the national level.

Tributes Pour In

Following news of her death, tributes have flooded social media, with many Ugandans remembering her as a dedicated broadcaster and mentor.

“May her soul rest in eternal peace,” read one of the many condolence messages shared online, reflecting the widespread grief among her listeners and peers.

Family sources indicate that Tweteise was a daughter of the late Christopher of Nyabikoni Ward in Kabale Municipality. Her mother, popularly known as Ebenezer, reportedly passed away only a few months ago.
