Equity Bank has pledged its support for Ugandan professional golfer Marvin Kibirige, handing him a dummy cheque worth $2,000 on Saturday at the Uganda Golf Club, to aid his participation in the 2026 Q-School Golf Tournament in India.

The sponsorship will enable Kibirige to compete in the prestigious qualifying event, a crucial pathway for golfers aiming to secure spots on major international professional tours. His participation represents a landmark moment for Ugandan golf, offering local players rare exposure on the global stage.

“We are committed to transforming lives by supporting talent with global potential. Marvin’s journey reflects our mission of empowerment and long-term partnership,” said Clare Tumwesigye, Head of Marketing and Communications at Equity Bank, during the handover ceremony.

Kibirige, currently Uganda’s number one professional golfer, described the support as a dream come true.

“Q-School represents hope for young golfers across the country, showing that with discipline, hard work, and the right backing, Ugandan players can compete internationally,” he said.

A former caddie who grew up on the Namulonge Golf Course, Kibirige has steadily risen through the ranks, earning a place in the national team since 2018. The Equity Bank sponsorship, which also includes logistical assistance and playing gear, eases the financial pressures associated with international competition and highlights the increasing role of corporate partnerships in advancing Ugandan sports.

Kibirige will now set his sights on India, carrying not just his personal ambitions but also the aspirations of a growing community of Ugandan golfers seeking to make their mark on the world stage.

“This support gives me the confidence to focus entirely on my game and represent Uganda with pride,” Kibirige added.

Equity Bank’s backing underscores the institution’s commitment to nurturing talent and creating opportunities for Ugandans to succeed internationally.
