Kampala — Socialite Christian Asiimwe, popularly known as Don Chris, has been remanded to Luzira Prison after appearing before the City Hall Magistrates Court over 127 charges of allegedly obtaining money by false pretence from job seekers.
Don Chris appeared before City Hall Magistrate Nicholas Aisu on Wednesday afternoon, where the charges were read to him.
Prosecution alleges that between 2022 and 2025, Asiimwe obtained millions of shillings from hundreds of job seekers after allegedly representing that he could secure employment for them in foreign countries.
The alleged destinations included Canada, the United Kingdom, Qatar and Dubai.
The complaints have been filed in seven separate charge sheets, with each sheet containing allegations involving approximately 20 people who reportedly paid money after being promised jobs abroad.
According to the prosecution, Asiimwe used his position and representations about employment opportunities outside Uganda to persuade the complainants to part with their money.
Asiimwe is a former director of Sky Pins, a labour recruitment company that has since ceased operations.
He was recently arrested in Zzana before being taken to court to face the charges.
After the allegations were read to him, court ordered that Asiimwe be remanded to Luzira Prison.
He is scheduled to return to court on September 21, 2026, when the case will come up for mention.
The case follows growing scrutiny of alleged fraudulent recruitment schemes in which job seekers are promised employment abroad in exchange for large sums of money.
The charges against Don Chris are allegations and have not been proved in court. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
