KAMPALA, Uganda — The Kampala Metropolitan Police has carried out a series of coordinated operations across the city aimed at curbing crime, improving public safety, and dismantling criminal networks.
The operations targeted several divisions, including Kabalagala, Kira, Old Kampala, and Wandegeya, focusing on known crime hotspots associated with robberies, narcotics, and possession of suspected stolen property.
According to Deputy Public Relations Officer Luke Owoyesigyire, multiple suspects were arrested during the intelligence-led raids and are currently undergoing screening and legal processing.
In one incident in Kabalagala, police responded to a fatal electrocution in Kisasizi Zone, Kibuli Parish. The victim, identified as 36-year-old mason Olowo Dominic, reportedly came into contact with a clothesline that had become live with electricity. His body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue to determine the source of the electric current.
Elsewhere, operations in Bukasa, Nsambya West, and Buyondo Zone led to the arrest of suspects linked to attacks on motorists and other criminal activities. Police said those apprehended have since been charged and are awaiting court proceedings.
In Kyaliwajjala, under Kira Division, eleven suspects were arrested in connection with a spate of robberies. Officers recovered items believed to be stolen, including household goods, as well as narcotic substances, knives, and a pickaxe.
Meanwhile, in Old Kampala Division, eight suspects were arrested from suspected drug-selling points and criminal hideouts in Nakulabye and Kasubi. Similar operations in Kikoni, Kapapali, and Old Mulago areas under Wandegeya Division resulted in the arrest of fifteen individuals suspected of involvement in shop break-ins and unlawful late-night gatherings.
“All suspects are undergoing screening, investigations, and legal processing,” Owoyesigyire said, adding that the force remains committed to sustained operations, community policing, and collaboration with local leaders.
Police say the crackdown forms part of broader efforts to enhance safety and security across the Kampala metropolitan area, with more updates expected as investigations progress.
