Preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations have officially gained momentum, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) launching a high-level workshop in Kampala bringing together leaders from the three host nations—Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

The two-day “Pamoja” (Swahili for “together”) workshop is being led by CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu and aims to align planning efforts for the historic tournament, scheduled to run from June 19 to July 18, 2027. This will mark the first time the continental showpiece is jointly hosted by three East African countries.

Top football officials attending the meeting include Moses Magogo of Uganda, Wallace Karia, and Hussein Mohammed, alongside government ministers and senior stakeholders from the region.

Key discussions at the workshop have focused on critical infrastructure and operational requirements, including the upgrade of major stadiums such as Mandela National Stadium, Moi International Sports Centre, and Arusha Olympic Stadium. Organizers are also addressing security, ticketing systems, and broadcasting logistics as part of the comprehensive preparation plan.

Speaking during the sessions, Magogo highlighted the significance of the tournament for the region, describing it as a transformative opportunity to showcase East Africa’s unity and potential.

“This is a chance not only to host a major football tournament but to strengthen regional integration, boost tourism, and improve infrastructure,” he said, noting that the experience gained will benefit both continental and domestic competitions in the future.

Officials acknowledged the tight timelines involved and stressed the urgency of coordinated action among the host nations. CAF representatives emphasized that successful delivery of the tournament will depend on strong collaboration, adherence to standards, and timely execution of agreed plans.

The 2027 AFCON is expected to draw thousands of visitors to the region, offering a platform to promote East Africa’s culture, investment opportunities, and sporting credentials on the global stage.

Leaders at the workshop expressed optimism that the joint hosting arrangement will not only deliver a successful tournament but also leave a lasting legacy in infrastructure development and regional cooperation.
