Police in Butaleja District have launched investigations into the suspected suicide of a 21-year-old Senior Three student of Alliance High School, Busolwe, whose body was discovered hanging from a tree on Friday.

The deceased, identified as Opendi Donato, commonly known as “Junior,” was a resident of Nagondo B Village in Mulagi Parish, Busaba Sub-county.

Bukedi South Regional Police spokesperson, Moses Mugwe, said the body was discovered by a resident who was heading to the garden early in the morning.

“The resident immediately alerted local leaders, including the LC1 chairperson, who in turn informed police,” Mugwe said.

He added that police opened a case of suspected suicide and deployed detectives to the scene to document evidence and begin inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death.

“We have commenced investigations into the matter to establish exactly what happened,” Mugwe noted.

According to police, a rope, a handwritten suicide note, and the student’s Primary Leaving Examination results slip were recovered from the scene.

Statements from witnesses and relatives have also been recorded as part of ongoing investigations.

The body was taken to Mbale City Mortuary for postmortem examination as detectives continue to piece together the events leading up to the incident.
