Global music stars Burna Boy and Shakira have joined forces for “Dai Dai,” the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in a collaboration that blends Afrobeats and Latin pop on football’s biggest stage.
The song is scheduled for official release on May 14, with teaser clips already generating excitement among football and music fans worldwide.
Shakira announced the collaboration through a promotional video filmed at the iconic Maracanã Stadium in Brazil, where she appeared alongside dancers dressed in the colours of participating nations while holding the official tournament ball.
In a social media post accompanying the teaser, Shakira wrote: “From Maracanã Stadium, here is ‘Dai Dai,’ the FIFA World Cup Official Song 2026. Coming 5/14. We’re ready!”
The collaboration marks a major cultural moment for the upcoming tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
For Burna Boy, the partnership further cements Afrobeats’ growing global influence, placing African music at the center of one of the world’s largest sporting spectacles. The Grammy-winning Nigerian star has become one of Africa’s biggest international exports, with his music increasingly featured on global stages.
Meanwhile, Shakira extends her long-standing relationship with FIFA World Cup music, having previously delivered some of the tournament’s most memorable anthems. Her 2010 hit Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) became a global phenomenon during the World Cup in South Africa, while she also performed “Hips Don’t Lie” during the 2006 tournament and “La La La (Brazil 2014)” at the 2014 World Cup.
Early fan reaction online has been overwhelmingly positive, with many celebrating Shakira’s return to World Cup music and praising the inclusion of Burna Boy in the project. Some fans described the collaboration as “Waka Waka 2.0,” while others said the partnership finally gives the 2026 tournament “a proper World Cup anthem.”
The teaser video ends with the message: “We’re ready!”—signalling the countdown toward what is expected to become one of the defining soundtracks of the 2026 tournament.
