Lango — The National Unity Platform (NUP), led by presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine, resumed its campaign in the Lango sub-region yesterday, despite last-minute challenges in Amolatar District.
The campaign was initially scheduled to begin at Amolatar Boma Ground, but NUP coordinators reported that access to the venue was denied at the eleventh hour by the District Security Committee, with no justifiable reason provided. Undeterred, the party delivered its message to supporters who had gathered, emphasising unity and freedom.
Following the setback, the NUP convoy traveled through remote dusty roads to Dokolo District, where a final rally was held at Angawecibangi Primary School playground.
Bobi Wine described the turnout as encouraging, noting that the people of Lango were eager to hear the party’s message of freedom. He was welcomed in the region by his Deputy President for Northern Uganda, Maama Lina Zedriga Waru.
Earlier in the campaign, the NUP also held rallies in Luwero, which the party described as a historical epicenter of resistance.
Party officials said the residents of Luwero demonstrated remarkable courage and solidarity, despite encountering numerous barricades and threats along the journey. The NUP reiterated its commitment to a revolutionary struggle aimed at restoring meaningful democracy in Uganda.
The rallies in Lango and Luwero highlight the NUP’s efforts to mobilisze support across the northern and central regions, signaling the party’s determination to reach voters even in remote and challenging locations.
