AGAGO DISTRICT — Security agencies have launched investigations following the fatal shooting of a businessman in Kalongo Town Council, Agago District, in what authorities suspect was a targeted attack.

The deceased has been identified as Ocana Morris, a businessman operating in Kalongo. He was gunned down on Wednesday evening along Market Street, one of the busiest commercial areas in the town council.

According to preliminary eyewitness accounts, the assailants emerged suddenly and opened fire on the businessman at close range before fleeing the scene. The attack sent traders, customers and residents into panic as gunshots rang out through the busy trading centre.

Witnesses said the shooting caused chaos in the area, with people scrambling for safety and several businesses temporarily closing as fear spread among the public.

Security personnel later cordoned off the scene and commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Authorities have not yet established the motive behind the attack, and it remains unclear whether the victim had received threats before the incident. No suspects had been arrested by press time.

The killing has sparked concern among residents and members of the business community, who described the incident as unusual and alarming for the area.

Several community leaders and traders have called for increased security patrols and enhanced intelligence operations to improve public safety and deter criminal activity.

Police are expected to release a detailed statement as investigations continue into what appears to have been a deliberate and coordinated attack.

The body of the deceased was taken for postmortem examination as detectives pursue leads that could help identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
