KAMPALA, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed former Mbarara Municipality Member of Parliament Michael Tusiime as Director of Public Expenditure Accountability at the Parliament of Uganda, according to multiple official social media announcements and public reports.

The appointment, which has been widely circulated by media and political pages, places Tusiime in a key oversight role within Parliament’s accountability framework, which is responsible for monitoring how public funds are used across government institutions.

Tusiime previously served as Member of Parliament for Mbarara Municipality between 2016 and 2021, representing the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). During his tenure, he also participated in parliamentary oversight work, including engagement with accountability-related committees.

Before his new appointment, Tusiime worked in various professional and advisory roles, including as a tax consultant and audit advisory consultant supporting parliamentary accountability functions and oversight committees.

His new position is expected to strengthen internal monitoring of public expenditure within Parliament, which plays a central role in reviewing government spending, audit reports, and financial compliance issues through its established accountability committees.

The appointment comes as Parliament continues to intensify scrutiny over public spending under Uganda’s financial oversight systems, which include committees such as the Public Accounts Committee that examine audit findings from the Office of the Auditor General.

Neither Parliament nor State House has issued a detailed formal statement beyond the circulating appointment notices, but the development has already sparked discussion within political and governance circles due to Tusiime’s return to a high-profile public accountability role.

Further official confirmation and administrative details are expected from Parliament in the coming days.
