Kampala, April 15, 2026 — Proceedings in the high-profile Ggaba daycare murder case resumed Wednesday after a brief interruption, with suspect Christopher Okello returning to court following a one-hour adjournment requested by his defence team.

The court had temporarily halted the session after Okello’s lawyers informed the presiding magistrate that their client was unwell and unable to proceed with the hearing at the time.

After the short break, Okello was escorted back into the makeshift courtroom in Ggaba, accompanied by his legal representatives, allowing proceedings to continue under tight security and heightened public interest.

Tense atmosphere as trial continues

The case—linked to the deaths of four children at a daycare centre in Ggaba—has drawn widespread national attention, with large crowds and media closely following developments.

Court sessions, currently being conducted within the community, have been marked by emotional scenes, reflecting the gravity of the charges and the public’s demand for justice.

Health concerns raise fresh questions

While the defence cited illness as the reason for the adjournment, court observers noted that the interruption briefly slowed proceedings in a case already under intense scrutiny.

Legal analysts say such pauses are not uncommon in criminal trials but can become sensitive in high-profile cases where public expectations are high.

Proceedings expected to advance

With Okello back in court, the hearing is expected to proceed with further submissions and possibly witness-related processes as the prosecution continues to build its case.

The trial remains one of the most closely watched criminal proceedings in Uganda, not only because of the nature of the alleged crime but also due to ongoing debates surrounding the conduct of hearings within a community setting.

More updates are expected as the court continues to hear the matter.
