Kampala, April 15, 2026 — Police in Kabalagala are investigating a serious road traffic accident that left a journalist injured after a government vehicle reportedly suffered brake failure at Ggaba Trading Centre.
The incident occurred at about 9:00am between Maranatha Primary School and Maranatha High School, involving a Toyota Hiace vehicle, registration number UU 00067 T, commonly referred to as a “drone,” and a pedestrian identified as Mulwana Ronald, a 28-year-old journalist.
According to police, the vehicle was transporting a suspect to a mobile court session when it developed a mechanical fault.
“It is alleged that the vehicle… developed a brake failure upon reaching the Mobile Court premises, causing it to knock down the pedestrian,” police said.
Mulwana, who was reportedly at the scene to cover ongoing court proceedings linked to a high-profile murder case, was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for medical treatment.
The accident occurred in an area hosting a mobile court handling the Ggaba daycare killings case, which has attracted significant public and media attention in recent days.
Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash, particularly the reported brake failure.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about vehicle safety and operational standards for government transport, especially in high-risk, high-traffic environments such as court premises.
