London, April 8, 2026 — The UK government has denied entry to American rapper Kanye West, prompting the cancellation of this year’s Wireless Festival in London.
According to reports by the BBC and other international media, the UK Home Office rejected West’s application to travel to the country through an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), citing concerns that his presence would not be “conducive to the public good.”
West had been scheduled to headline the three-day festival later this summer, but mounting backlash over his planned appearance intensified pressure on authorities to act.
Officials said the decision followed widespread criticism of the rapper’s past conduct, including repeated antisemitic remarks and controversial content released in recent years.
The fallout has had immediate consequences for the festival, one of the UK’s biggest music events, with organisers confirming its cancellation after West’s travel clearance was withdrawn.
“The Home Office has withdrawn Ye’s ETA, denying him entry into the United Kingdom. As a result, Wireless Festival is cancelled, and refunds will be issued to all ticket holders,” organisers said in a statement.
West, who now goes by the name Ye, has faced global backlash over a string of controversies, including antisemitic statements and the release of a 2025 song titled “Heil Hitler,” which was banned from major streaming platforms.
The controversy also triggered sponsor withdrawals and criticism from political leaders, further complicating efforts to proceed with the event.
Despite recent public apologies and attempts to rebuild his image, the UK government maintained its stance, emphasising its responsibility to protect public interest and social cohesion.
The cancellation marks a significant disruption for the UK’s summer entertainment calendar, with thousands of ticket holders now set to receive refunds.
