Kampala — More than 100 suspects have been arrested in a series of coordinated security operations across the Kampala Metropolitan Area as police intensify efforts to ensure safety during the Easter holiday.
According to Racheal Kawala, the operations were conducted on the night of April 1, 2026, between 8:30pm and 3:00am, targeting crime-prone areas through intelligence-led deployments.
“The Kampala Metropolitan Police have intensified patrols, visibility, and disruptive operations to ensure a safe and secure Easter period,” Kawala said.
In Entebbe, police operations in Kasenyi and Nakiwogo led to the arrest of 23 suspects. In Mukono, a total of 36 suspects were picked up from areas including Kawoola, Katoogo, Takajjunge, and Kubiri.
Meanwhile, operations by Old Kampala Police in the New Taxi Park and Kakajo resulted in 24 arrests, while 14 suspects were apprehended in St. Augustine Zone under Katwe Division.
In Kira Municipality, police arrested 11 suspects during operations in Mulawa, Kitukutwe, and Kiwologoma.
Police said several exhibits were recovered during the operations, including dry marijuana leaves, rolled sticks, and fresh plant materials suspected to be narcotics.
“All suspects are currently in police custody pending court proceedings,” Kawala said, adding that similar operations will continue in the coming days.
The crackdown is part of wider efforts by the Uganda Police Force to deter crime and maintain public order during the Easter festivities, a period often associated with increased travel and public gatherings.
