Kole District, Uganda — Police in Kole District have arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of livestock from a farmer in Witim Village, Ayamo Parish, Okwerodot Sub-county.
According to police, the arrests followed a swift operation involving the K9 unit after the theft was reported on March 21, 2026.
“It is alleged that unknown individuals broke into the complainant’s farm during the night and stole seven goats,” a police statement said. “The victim promptly reported the matter, and officers responded immediately.”
K9 Unit Tracks Suspect
Investigators who visited the scene found clear signs of forced entry at the goat shelter.
“The door was found wide open, and a broken padlock was recovered at the scene, indicating that the suspects used force to gain access,” police said.
A police sniffer dog was deployed and successfully picked up a human scent from the scene.
“The K9 tracked the scent for approximately 800 metres to the residence of one Okwe Bonny, who was immediately arrested,” police added.
Exhibits Recovered
A search at the suspect’s home led to the recovery of several items believed to be linked to the crime.
“These included a blood-stained panga, a blood-stained axe, and a rope with blood stains found near a pit within the compound,” police stated. “We also recovered goat intestines that had been buried in a hole at the premises.”
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed and named two accomplices.
“He admitted involvement in the theft and implicated Odong Ameri and Ramathan Owong, who have since been arrested,” police said.
Suspects in Custody
All three suspects are currently detained as investigations continue.
“They will be charged accordingly upon completion of inquiries,” police confirmed.
Authorities have urged communities to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activity, noting that collaboration between the public and security agencies is key in curbing livestock theft in rural areas.
