The Uganda Wildlife Authority has announced the birth of a new mountain gorilla in the Mucunguzi family, marking a significant milestone as the world celebrates the International Day of Forests.
The newborn was recorded in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, one of the country’s conservation areas. With this latest addition, the Mucunguzi gorilla family has grown to 18 members.
UWA described the development as encouraging progress for ongoing Gorilla Conservation efforts, highlighting the importance of sustained protection and monitoring of endangered mountain gorillas in Uganda.
The authority noted that such births are a positive indicator of a stable and thriving habitat, as well as effective conservation strategies implemented in the park.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park remains a critical sanctuary for mountain gorillas, and each new birth is seen as a step forward in securing the future of the species both nationally and globally.
