3 arrested over targeted robberies of bank clients

Police in Nansana have registered a major breakthrough in investigations into a string of robberies targeting bank clients, following the arrest of four suspects linked to the crimes.

According to the Uganda Police Force, the suspects were apprehended during intelligence-led operations conducted between March 10 and March 14, 2026. The arrests come after a surge in incidents involving individuals being attacked shortly after withdrawing money from banking halls in the area.

Authorities say the suspects had been waylaying victims, particularly around busy banking points, including the vicinity of Base Hotel. They allegedly robbed victims of cash and other valuables before fleeing the scenes.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to participating in multiple robberies targeting bank clients across Nansana. Preliminary findings indicate that the group operated while armed with pangas and relied on boda bodas to execute quick getaways after each attack.

Police have since intensified investigations to determine the full extent of the criminal network and to track down additional accomplices who may still be at large.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire urged members of the public to remain cautious, especially when handling large sums of money.

“We advise bank clients to stay vigilant and, where possible, seek police escort or use safer means when transporting cash,” he said.

Police have assured the public that more updates will be provided as investigations progress.
