KAMPALA — Police in Kampala have launched investigations into a viral video showing a group of men scaling a perimeter fence before violently assaulting an individual inside a residential compound.
The video, which circulated widely on social media on Friday, prompted the Uganda Police Force to open an inquiry into the incident.
According to Rachael Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police is working to identify both the victim and those involved in the attack.
“The Kampala Metropolitan Police has noted with concern a video circulating on social media showing a group of men scaling a perimeter fence and violently assaulting an individual within the premises,” Kawala said in a statement.
She added that investigators have already identified one of the suspected attackers from the footage and efforts are underway to arrest him.
“A preliminary review of the footage has enabled investigators to identify one of the suspected assailants, and efforts are currently underway to have him arrested,” she said.
Police say the identity and location of the victim remain unknown, and they are urging the individual seen in the video—or anyone with information about the incident—to report to the nearest police station.
Authorities also warned the public against taking part in mob justice or other forms of violent retaliation.
“We strongly warn members of the public against engaging in acts of lawlessness and mob justice. Such conduct is criminal and will not be tolerated,” Kawala said.
Unverified claims circulating online have linked the attack to disputes within Kampala’s music scene, including rival groups associated with hip-hop artist Omukunja Atasera and the camp of musician Alien Skin.
However, police say they have not confirmed these claims or the exact location where the incident occurred, though some social media users suggested it may have happened in the Kabuusu area of Kampala.
Police said investigations are ongoing and promised further updates as more information becomes available, stressing that all individuals involved in the assault will be traced and prosecuted.
