KAMPALA — Police have arrested 14 suspects during an operation targeting criminal groups involved in motorcycle robberies, particularly attacks on boda boda riders.

The operation was conducted by Kampala Metropolitan Police South together with officers from Kajjansi Police Division.

According to police, security teams carried out a cordon-and-search operation on March 11 at Muganzirwaza Building, where several shops suspected to be dealing in stolen motorcycle parts were searched.

Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said several exhibits believed to be linked to motorcycle robberies were recovered.

These include six Bajaj Boxer motorcycles with registration numbers UDJ 081A, UEO 147V, UFH 038X, UDX 342P, UEJ 419G, and UDU 722G, as well as sacks containing dismantled motorcycle spare parts, two motorcycle frames and other metal components.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are believed to be part of a group that has been targeting boda boda riders since 2025.

Police say the gang allegedly poses as customers requesting rides from distant locations before attacking the riders with pangas, stealing their motorcycles and dismantling them for spare parts.

Security agencies say operations are still ongoing as they pursue other suspects believed to be on the run.
