Police in Wakiso District have arrested a suspect in connection with an aggravated robbery that left a bodaboda rider injured and robbed of his motorcycle.

According to a statement issued by Racheal Kawala, officers launched investigations after the attack on Ssesanga Equiam, a resident of Sumbwe Village in Sumbwe Parish, Wakiso District.

Police said the incident occurred on February 13, 2026 at about 10:00pm when the victim was riding home on his motorcycle. Along the way, he reportedly picked up two men around Busega who posed as passengers travelling to Sumbwe.

When they reached Wakiso District, the two suspects allegedly turned on the rider.

“The suspects pulled out a panga and attacked the victim, cutting his riding helmet before robbing him of his red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UMA 191DV and a mobile phone,” police said.

Following weeks of investigations, police conducted an intelligence-led operation on March 9 that led to the arrest of one suspect in Kikunyu Village. The suspect, who is reportedly a bodaboda rider and resident of the area, is now in police custody.

During the operation, police recovered several exhibits including a mobile phone believed to belong to the victim, a numberless motorcycle, and two other motorcycles with registration numbers UEB 559Q and UEC 678N.

The recovered items are expected to assist investigators in linking the suspect to the robbery and possibly other related crimes.

Police said efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects involved in the attack.

“We are continuing with operations to apprehend the other suspects. More details will be shared as investigations progress,” Kawala said.
